Citrus Heights police chief to lead state association

Published: Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 - 2:17 pm

Citrus Heights Police Chief Christopher Boyd will be installed next week as president of the California Police Chiefs Association.

Boyd will assume the post Wednesday during the organization’s 37th annual Training Symposium in Monterey. It has been 39 years since a chief from the Sacramento region served as the association’s president, according to a Citrus Heights Police Department news release.

The association represents the state’s municipal police chiefs whose agencies serve 78 percent of California’s residents.

As president, Boyd will play a significant role in the organization’s legislative efforts, through partnerships with the Governor’s Office and the state Legislature.

“We continue to face issues related to the implementation of Realignment and the importance of sufficient funding for local law enforcement to mitigate Realignment’s impacts on our communities,” Boyd said in a written statement. “The association is also launching proactive medical marijuana regulation legislation to further ensure the public’s safety and reduce the harm that is currently unfolding in our state due to lack of regulation. We intend to focus on the issues of human trafficking, mental health and youth intervention through collaboration with our partners.”

Boyd has led the Citrus Heights Police Department since it was established in 2006. He previously served the Menlo Park Police Department for more than 15 years in various capacities including chief of police.

Boyd was appointed to the California Police Chiefs Association’s board of directors in 2010.
