Eating inside or out, dining along the river is a great way to experience the Sacramento Delta. Here are five places to eat while watching the ever-changing scene happening along our waterways.
1577 Garden Highway,
Sacramento, is located in a floating barge with an old airline loading ramp as its entrance. Back in the 1970s, it was owned by an aide to the speaker of the state Assembly and was something of a political haunt, but it remains a popular venue, especially for boaters who pack its dock during summer months.
5871 Garden Highway,
Sacramento, virtually beneath the Interstate 5 bridge near Sacramento International Airport, is pure river funk, known for its tacos and its live music in an outdoor venue.
14743 Walnut Grove-
Walnut Grove, has been in the same family for more than a century, and its bar has a huge collection of baseball caps donated by loyal patrons. It was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.
14001 W. Walnut
Grove Road, Walnut
Grove, is adjacent to a marina of the same name and is particularly popular with boaters who are exploring The Meadows, a maze of channels and sloughs between Walnut Grove and Interstate 5.
106 Brannan Island
Road, Isleton, was closed for a while but recently reopened under new management. Its on the Delta Loop, a road along levees off Highway 12 between Lodi and Rio Vista, and overlooks the Mokelumne River near where it flows into the San Joaquin River.
