The California Highway Patrol announced the arrest of a Marysville man in connection with a fatal New Year’s Day hit-and-run crash in Yuba County.
Larry Kendall Smith, 26, was taken into custody Feb. 13 and is in Yuba County Jail accused of several offenses, including vehicular manslaughter in the death of his passenger, 37-year-old Angela Faulkner of Marysville.
The California Highway Patrol responded about 2:15 p.m. Jan. 1 to a hit-and-run fatality on Simpson Lane at Simpson Dantoni Road, east of Marysville. Faulkner, who was a passenger in the front seat, was ejected from the vehicle and later died of her injuries, according to a CHP news release. The driver left the scene on foot after the crash.
Witnesses told the CHP that the vehicle was traveling an estimated 90 mph when it entered a curve in the roadway just north of Simpson Dantoni Road, and the driver failed to negotiate the curve. The vehicle, a 1999 Chevy Tahoe, left the roadway and rolled over, ejecting Faulkner, who was not wearing a seat belt.
CHP investigators determined that Kendall was the driver of the vehicle and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Shortly before 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13, Marysville police and Sutter County Probation Department officers conducted a search for Smith on East 11th Street in Marysville. He was found at a residence and taken into custody. Wanita J. Smith also was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to a crime, according to the CHP.
