CarMax, which bills itself as the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, has opened its new store at 8185 E. Stockton Blvd., north of Calvine Road in Sacramento County.
The used-car complex, comprising more than 56,000 square feet and employing about 130, is along Highway 99, south of Sacramento and north of Elk Grove.
The sales site is spread out over 19 acres. At any given time, on-site inventory totals about 450 recent-model-year motor vehicles manufactured by multiple automakers.
In connection with the new store’s opening, Richmond, Va.-based CarMax is hosting an online “CarMax Rally for Charity” contest on the CarMax Facebook page. CarMax said it will donate $5,000 to three local nonprofits competing for votes: the Sacramento Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California and Weave Inc. Votes can be cast through March 6. Each charity will receive a $1,000 donation, and the charity receiving the most votes will receive an additional $2,000.
The new store is the third CarMax in the Sacramento region and CarMax’s 18th in California. CarMax opened a 29,000-square-foot store in Fairfield in August last year and also operates a store on Eureka Road in Roseville.
CarMax has 131 stores in 64 markets.
