Jury convicts Jerry King in uncle’s murder in Herald

Published: Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 - 4:29 pm

A Sacramento Superior Court jury today convicted Jerry Lee King Jr. of first-degree murder in the Dec. 9, 2012, shooting death of his uncle, Willis Griffin, amid a family dispute at their residence on Purvis Road in Herald.

King, 32, is facing a prison term of 50 years to life for the death of Griffin, 50. Judge Michael P. Kenny scheduled King’s sentencing for March 21.

It took the jury a day of deliberations to reach a verdict. King, in testifying in his own defense, admitted that he killed his uncle, but said it was an accident. He had previously told detectives and the news media that an unknown person in a gray truck did it.
