Get out your umbrellas, Sacramento, rain is on the way, but not enough to affect drought conditions.
Though it will be around 70 degrees Saturday through Tuesday (the usual average is 63), with sunny skies and a few high clouds, “we have a change in the weather pattern beginning Wednesday,” said Stefanie Henry, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento.
“A series of wet systems will bring two to three inches of rain to the area Wednesday through at least next Sunday, and it looks like more rain will follow the week after that,” Henry said, with the “potential of some thunderstorms Friday.”
The storms will help relieve drought conditions “a little bit, but they won’t break it,” Henry said. “They could make a dent in our deficit, but there’s a lot of rain water to make up. Part of that is our below-normal snow pack. Our reservoir levels are still quite below what they should be. It would take a lot of (heavy rain) to even get close to breaking the drought.”
Snow levels will be at “about 6,000 feet Wednesday and Thursday, but a colder system will bring levels down to 4,000 feet Friday, Saturday and next Sunday,” Henry said.
As for banking on another “March Miracle” of big storms for Sacramento, Henry said there’s a 50-50 chance of “getting rainfall above or below normal in March.”
Best advice? “Hang in there, Sacramento,” she said.
