Firefighters protected a Rio Linda home Monday as fire destroyed a barn and a trailer on the property.

Damage from the fire, the cause of which is not known, was estimated to total $55,000, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.

Multiple callers reported the blaze on the 7300 block of Dry Creek Road about 5 p.m. Firefighters found the barn and trailer engulfed in flames and the primary residence, as well as a guest home, threatened, officials said.

The homes were saved, though the two outbuildings were total losses. No one was injured.
