Folsom officials will hold a groundbreaking for the Johnny Cash Trail and bike-pedestrian overcrossing Thursday, a ceremony that will be attended by one of the late country singer’s children.
The groundbreaking is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Folsom Lake Crossing Road and East Natoma Street. The public is invited.
Cindy Cash, daughter of the musician who made the prison famous with the song “Folsom Prison Blues,” will attend the ceremony. A Johnny Cash tribute artist will provide entertainment.
The $3.8 million overcrossing will span Folsom Lake Crossing Road and is designed with structures to resemble Folsom Prison’s guard towers. It is expected to open in the fall.
The 2.5-mile Johnny Cash trail will eventually extend from the Historic Truss bridge to Green Valley Road, traversing prison property and linking El Dorado and Placer counties to Folsom’s historic district and the American River Parkway.
