Zoo takes time for flamingo checkups

About 40 brightly colored birds got checkups at the Sacramento Zoo on Thursday.

UC Davis and zoo veterinary staff gave flamingos physical exams, blood checks and vaccines against the West Nile virus.

The flamingos got the West Nile vaccine because the virus can be as fatal to birds as it sometimes is to humans.
