Re "City ignored its residents" (Letters, March 1): I read with amusement the anti-arena and anti-Mayor Kevin Johnson letters in Saturday's paper. Several bemoaned the fact that their signatures didn't count. They ignore several significant facts.
When they elected the council representatives to make these decisions, their votes counted. When a proposition is illegal under the city charter, you could get everyone in Sacramento to sign it and it wouldn't matter. Sacramento is filled with lawyers and they couldn't find one to review the petitions and make sure the wording and structure was correct.
All of the above are realities that these folks choose to ignore. But that is the reason the signatures didn't count. Blame it on STOP. Johnson and the city had nothing to do with it.
