Police should enforce the law, not make it

Re "Harris right to fight creeping gun culture" (Editorials, March 4): Police don't get to decide who to apply the law to any more than the Army gets to decide when and where to go to war.

Every citizen starts with a constitutional right to bear arms. The word, bear, means to carry. We as a society enact laws which can take away this right based on mental instability, criminal activity or other mutually agreed upon criteria. I'm all for sensible gun control methods to ensure that the laws are met. But we cannot allow the police to make these laws, only to enforce them.
