Homeless camp cleanups gather 500 bags of trash in Placerville

Published: Monday, Mar. 3, 2014 - 8:06 am

The clean up of illegal homeless camps in Placerville continued Sunday when police and community volunteers dodged raindrops to pick up more than 500 bags of trash.

“We were able to get out before the rain started and clean up more illegal camps and the trash left behind,” said Police Chief Scott Heller.

Officers joined 36 community volunteers, along with city workers, in cleaning up along Upper Broadway and along the trail east of Schnell School Road.

The department extended its thanks to Laura Clark and members of El Dorado County Watch for help in recruiting volunteers. Members of Christ Like Services also helped with the clean up.

El Dorado Waste Management donated a storage container and other services to the effort.

More camp cleanups are planned. To volunteer, call Sgt. Brody Jordan at (530) 642-5210.
