Another 44 taxpayers some businesses, some individuals have been added to the states Top 500 list of sales and use tax delinquents.
Heading the new list, released Tuesday by the state Board of Equalization, is Richard W.P. Sang, who owes $3.8 million in unpaid taxes, according to the BOE. Sangs address is given as 3000 J St. in Sacramento, site of the last surviving Lyons restaurant, which closed in 2012.
Sang is one of six with personal or business ties to the greater Sacramento area who were added to the list, including CC Liquidating Company in West Sacramento (which owes $770,700) and Orange County Motorsports, Inc., based in Auburn (owing $657,800).
Collectively, the 44 new names owe the state $41.1 million, the BOE said.
Last year, the BOE created an online map that shows all 500 individuals by name, city, state and the amount owed. Altogether, those 500 owe the BOE a combined $514.9 million in unpaid state taxes. The BOEs No. 1 tax debtor is Los Angeles resident Bruce McNall, a former racehorse owner and onetime Los Angeles Kings hockey team president, who is listed as owing the state $7.9 million.
The BOE launched its Top 500 list in 2007 as a way to publicly goad delinquent taxpayers into paying their back taxes. In the last seven years, the BOE said it has received $10.21 million from 121 taxpayers whove paid their debts. Of those, 100 are making installment payments and 21 have paid in full. Only BOE debts above $100,000 are eligible for the Top 500 list.
A similar tax debtors list is posted by the state Franchise Tax Board.
