What: Marcos Murillo has designed a full dinner menu for his Tapa the World visit at this month’s Plates Guest Chef Dinner to benefit St. John’s Shelter for Women & Children.

Empty Bowls

What: The fundraiser for River City Food Bank features gourmet soups, bread and dessert from Classique Catering, and you get to take home the handmade bowl.

When: Monday 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.; Tuesday 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Where: Sacramento Convention Center, 1400 J St., Sacramento

Cost: $30 lunch, $60 dinner (includes wine)

Classic Italian cooking class

What: Learn to use seasonal ingredients to tap into the regional flavors of classic Italian cuisine in a class that will cover, among other dishes, Sardinian “music paper bread,” peas with prosciutto and panna cotta.
