Youths must understand the consequences of fleeing

In recent years, I attended the funerals of 21-year-old Devin LePierro shot and killed by law enforcement after a foot pursuit, and of 26-year-old LaMarr Alexander shot and killed after a car chase. I spoke with a friend of a 19-year-old shot and killed in a parking lot after attempting to flee.

Perhaps youth are running out of fear of going to jail or having guns pointed in their direction.

The stolen car had a GPS theft tracking device. The car and suspect could have safely been located, avoiding a reckless chase. Law enforcement should hold a town hall to warn youths that if they flee, they won't be arrested, arraigned, or receive due process, but instead could end up in the morgue.
