Forget the Stockton Port’s Google barge, watch barn owl cam

The Port of Stockton is now the home of the mysterious Google barge, but another port web wonder – barn owl cam – has been drawing attention.

Last year, the Port of Stockton installed video cameras in two barn owl nest boxes at the inland port’s west complex. The boxes are used by the raptors to raise their owlets or simply a quiet spot for the adults to hang out during the daytime when they don’t do any hunting.

The solar-powered owl camera has infrared technology to capture nighttime viewing. That’s when the most interesting activity occurs.

The live stream on Thursday in one of the boxes seemed to show a mature barn owl taking a snooze while in the foreground a dead rodent snack was ready for consuming.

View the barn owl cams here.
