Re "State must first solve medical marijuana mess" (Editorials, March 2): The entire concept of medicinal herbs is quackery. Smoking anything is not legitimate medicine.
Secondly, trying to regulate a fundamentally Food and Drug Administration non-compliant industry would be a waste of time and resources. No one is going to spend millions to meet compliance with so little legal protection for their business. Placing unnecessary burdens on legitimate actors in the industry will only stifle innovation and empower the street dealer.
Lastly, marijuana is safe for recreational use. No one should be punished for its use. California would be extremely foolish to miss this opportunity to capitalize on this industry. Focusing on refining the medical cannabis rules would be a step backward, not forward.
