The Sacramento region’s tech industry saw growth in companies, jobs and revenue in 2013, according to new data released Friday at the Sacramento Regional Technology Alliance’s “TechEdge Celebration” luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento.
SARTA said there are now are more than 530 tech companies in the Sacramento region. Med tech companies now total 137, up 11 from the previous year. SARTA said the med tech sector saw more than 20 percent job growth in 2013, from less than 5,000 workers in 2012 to more than 6,000.
The region’s clean tech sector accounted for more than $2.2 billion in revenue among 99 companies in 2013, a 5 percent increase over the previous year. Employment in the sector grew 6 percent to more than 3,400. For perspective, SARTA noted that the clean tech sector accounted for only 650 jobs in 2004.
“We’re proud of the tech sector’s growth but even more excited about what it means for Sacramento’s future,” said Meg Arnold, SARTA’s CEO. “We expect continued growth and are confident that the tech industry’s role in our regional economy will expand significantly moving forward.”
