Fresh Market failed to market itself

Re "Fresh Market’s sudden closures stun shoppers but not retail analysts" (Business, March 7): I was also a loyal Fresh Market customer and was saddened by its sudden closure and the loss of jobs for its employees.

What caused this? Total lack of marketing. Except for new store openings, there was no publicity, no advertising, and no marketing of what The Fresh Market was.

I would mention it to friends and they had no idea what it was, where it was, or what it carried. The Sacramento location was so obscure and isolated, a person would have had to know it was there. Few did. Fresh Market set itself up for failure in the Sacramento area. It owes us, and more importantly, its now former employees a huge apology.
