Men can't be sole judges of sexual misconduct

Re "Bipartisan minority blocks military sex assault bill" (Page A7, March 7): Asking a U.S. Army command structure, made up primarily of men (more than 85 percent, to judge sexual misconduct of male solders is a little like asking the Catholic Church, where the command structure is 100 percent male priests, to judge molestation of children by other male priests.

We know how well that worked. We need systems where men are not the sole judges of sexual misconduct by other men. The long-term solution for sexual misconduct in both the Army and Catholic Church is more women in command positions of authority. Of course that would require the Catholic Church to allow women to break the porcelain ceiling by giving them the opportunity to enter the priesthood and become part of the command structure.
