The partners of Sacramento law firm of Downey Brand LLP have elected Scott Shapiro as managing partner and Stan Van Vleck as chair.
Shapiro has assisted clients with more than $1 billion in projects in Californias Central Valley and handled issues involving the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers throughout the western United States. Shapiro specializes in large-scale flood protection improvement projects, advising clients through regulatory, contractual, financing and legislative challenges.
The downtown firm, which recently has seen some of its lawyers split off to form their own boutique firms, said it plans to announce more new hires in coming months. The firm, which has extensive experience in environmental and natural resources law, currently has about 101 attorneys.
During a recent Downey Brand retreat, Shapiro said the partners reviewed and discussed a variety of best practices being utilized throughout the legal industry and developed our own approach that we believe makes us even stronger.
Last month, attorney Kevin O'Brien stepped down as Downey Brands managing partner to focus on urgent needs of the firms water clients during Californias drought.
