Sacramento State guard Mikh McKinney was named to the all-Big Sky Conference basketball first team, it was announced Monday.
McKinney, the first Hornet to be so honored since Alex Bausley and DaShawn Freeman in 2006, was a unanimous selection. McKinney averaged 16.3 points and 4.5 assists, both team highs. He averaged 17.0 points and 5.1 assists in conference play.
Guard Dylan Garrity, a three-time honorable mention pick, became the first Hornet to receive all-Big Sky recognition three times. Garrity, the conference’s active career leader in assists with 441, averaged 13.0 points a game (13.4 in Big Sky play with 3.9 assists).
Garrity became an ESPN “SportsCenter” and Internet sensation when he made a 75-foot shot as time expired in a 78-75 overtime win over Weber State last month.
The No. 7 Hornets (14-15) will meet No. 2 North Dakota (15-15) in their conference tournament opener Thursday in Ogden, Utah.
Women – Point guard Fantasia Hilliard, a former Sacramento High School standout and the Big Sky’s Outstanding Freshman two seasons ago, was named honorable mention all-conference for the second straight season.
Hilliard’s 6.4 assists per game led the Big Sky and ranked 13th nationally. She averaged 11.7 points.
No. 7 Sac State (18-11) will meet No. 2 Southern Utah (21-8) in the conference tournament opener Thursday in Grand Forks, N.D.
