San Mateo-based SolarCity Corp. on Wednesday announced a partnership with electronics retailer Best Buy to launch in-store residential solar-panel sales and services at about 60 Best Buy stores in California and four other states.

One of the designated stores is the Best Buy at 2445 Iron Point Road in Folsom. Best Buys in Vacaville and Modesto also will have SolarCity representatives in their stores.

More than half the Best Buys with in-store SolarCity representatives are in California. Other designated Best Buy outlets are in Oregon, Arizona, Hawaii and New York.

Officials said the effort aims to take solar electricity systems “mainstream.” SolarCity also cited a requested study showing that 62 percent of American home owners said they are “interested” in solar power for their own homes.

SolarCity is offering a $100 Best Buy gift card for those who sign up for solar service through Best Buy before Earth Day (April 22).
