Placer County sheriff’s deputies have lifted lockdowns at the Colfax High School campus and the neighboring Colfax Elementary School aafter three first-graders reported seeing a man with two guns headed toward the elementary school.

No guns or gunman were found, said sheriff’s Lt. John Poretti. Students are now being sent home. The two schools were placed on lockdown for more than two hours.

“We did a classroom-by-classroom search,” Poretti said. “I think they saw someone. Whether he was carrying a gun, that we don’t know.”

The Sheriff’s Department was alerted at 12:15 p.m. that three first-graders reported seeing a man dressed in black walking across the soccer fields toward the high school campus, authorities said. The students said that the man was carrying a long gun and a handgun, Poretti said.

More than 1,000 students and staff members were affected. Roughly 40 officers from multiple agencies responded.
