Sheriff Scott Jones is only candidate to qualify for ballot in June election

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones is the only candidate to qualify for the ballot in the June 3 election as he seeks a second term.

The deadline to file nomination papers was Friday. Only Jones filed paperwork, said Alice Jarboe, assistant registrar of voters.

Anyone who wants to run against Jones as a write-in candidate can file the appropriate paperwork between April 7 and May 20, Jarboe said.

Jones was elected sheriff in November 2010 after a bruising race against Capt. Jim Cooper. He took the helm from then-Sheriff John McGinness at the end of that year.
