Re "Health plan is GOP's baby" (Letters, March 12): The Affordable Care Act has some excellent features that should be preserved, such as no exclusions for pre-existing conditions and no lifetime limits on expenditures. Obamacare required cancellation of existing popular medical policies to meet unwanted government requirements. Insurance companies should be allowed to reestablish those plans that people could afford and met their needs. Minimize mandates.

Expanded Medicaid enrollment can be offered for low- income uninsured. Reimbursements would need to be adequate to guarantee care. Allow interstate insurance sales and portability of coverage, expand health care savings accounts, and allow cheap catastrophic coverage for young, healthy Americans.

Reduce government control. Simplify the process of obtaining insurance policies to allow people to select their preferred plan without government meddling.
