Police shootings are not justified

Re "Police: Man asked to be shot" (Our Region, March 10): Within less than a week, Sacramento police officers shot and killed one man on a light-rail train and seriously wounded a second man. In both incidents, officers shot the upper body.

There are other ways of disarming an aggressor. If police officers have to shoot, they should aim for lower extremities as a way of preventing death or life threatening injuries.

Police officers' reactions were not justified. It is an oxymoron to first seriously injure somebody and then to do everything possible to safe the person's life. This is preventable.
