Dog park to appear at midtown farmer's market

Published: Friday, Mar. 14, 2014 - 12:26 pm

You finally have a place to keep your dog while shopping for kale and vegan muffins at the midtown farmer’s market.

The Midtown Business Association said today it will construct a dog park at the weekly market at 20th and J streets. The park will be available every second Saturday of the month from April to October.

There won’t be a fee for dogs, but all pups must be current on vaccinations and dog owners will have to sign waivers. Only dogs weighing under 30 pounds will be allowed into the park because it will be smaller than 1,000 square feet.

“If there is enough interest and funding, we’d love to expand the park to have space for dogs over 30 pounds as well,” said Emily Baime Michaels, director of the Midtown Business Association.

The organization expects that on-site dog grooming, adoptions and food demonstrations will be available at the farmer’s market as the dog park grows in popularity.

A crowd funding campaign at Neighbor.ly is paying for the project. Supplies are being provided by Old Soul coffee and Grateful Dog Daycare.
