Donations of prom dresses and accessories are sought as part a volunteer effort to make sure all girls at Galt high schools have access to affordable dresses for their prom.

Prom Closet - Operation Fairy Tale, was initiated four years ago by then senior Danielle Sanders as a Girl Scout project. Sanders is now in college, but her mother Deanna and Laurie Bambas, an outreach counselor with school district, have continued the event. This year’s Prom Closet will open to shoppers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 29 in the Liberty Ranch High School cafeteria, 12945 Marengo Road, Galt.

Donations of dresses, shoes, costume jewelry, purses and other accessories may be delivered to Rosario Emperador at Galt High School, Monica Sowards at Estrellita Continuation High School, or Bambas at Liberty Ranch High School. Items are requested by March 24.

Organizers also seek donations of sturdy clothes racks and storage containers.

Bambas said about 90 dresses have been collected so far this year. All sizes, colors and styles are sought, including vintage styles.
