Re "Campaign finance bill stalls" (Page A3, March 18): If anyone is interested in the exact mechanism by which bribery of elected representatives is made legal in California, please take note of the defeat of Senate Bill 27 by four Republicans this week.
In his specious argument against the bill, Senate Minority Leader Bob Huff, R-Diamond Bar, said he wants to protect the privacy of rich people to secretly purchase politicians. He also said the timing was bad.
In the finest tradition of Republican deceit, Huff said Democrats misrepresented the facts. Karl Rove would be proud.
Next time you're angry that elected officials are shills for billionaires, you can thank the Republicans.
