Pinch hitter Ryan Locke delivered a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning Tuesday night to give Sacramento State a 4-2 victory over Pacific at Raley Field, the Hornets reported.

With the bases loaded in a 2-2 game, Locke hit a two-run double, making him 4 for 4 as a pinch hitter this season.

“(Locke) has been special in that spot,” coach Reggie Christiansen said. “It’s almost like how (closer) Sutter McLoughlin is late in the game; we can count on him to get it done in the clutch.”

McLoughlin earned his sixth save, retiring the Tigers (10-13) in order on 11 pitches. He has yet to allow a run in 14 innings this season.

The Hornets (9-11) scored their other two runs on Rhys Hoskins’ third-inning double.

Hornets shut out Princeton in softball

Kaitlyn Yerby threw a six-hitter for her first college shutout as host Sac State beat Princeton 4-0 in the second game of a softball doubleheader, the Hornets reported. The Tigers (3-10) won the first game 3-1.

Yerby allowed two singles each in the first and second innings before retiring 16 of the last 19 batters she faced.

After stranding 10 runners in the opener, the Hornets (11-14) scored four runs in the second inning of the nightcap. Paige Martin’s two-run double capped the inning.

• Sac State golfer Lisa Persson placed third in the Fresno State Classic, the Hornets reported. She closed with a 3-over-par 75 for a three-round total of 8-over 224, six shots behind winner Clariss Guce of Cal State Northridge. The Hornets came in sixth, 22 shots behind co-champions Fresno State and Boise State.

UC Davis sprinter Ashley Marshall was named the Big West Conference women’s Athlete of the Week for the second straight week, the conference announced. She won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and ran a leg on UCD’s winning 4x100 relay at Saturday’s Aggie Open.

• UC Davis’ Anna Shumaker was chosen the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week for the third consecutive week, the conference announced. She finished second in the all-around in a dual meet Saturday against Cal.
