Sacramento supervisor to host scholarship fundraiser

Published: Wednesday, Mar. 19, 2014 - 4:48 pm

Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna is hosting a benefit event Thursday night at 6 p.m. to fund scholarships for underprivileged college students.

Proceeds will go to the county’s Department of Human Assistance Scholarship Program, which provides $500 cash awards.

Serna’s band “Unsupervised” – dubbed “Sacramento’s most politically correct band” – will play at the fundraiser held at Starlite Lounge, 1517 21st Street, Sacramento. Tickets are $40 per person or $70 for a couple. Other level tickets are available for $500, $1,000 and $5,000 and can be bought at the door.

Serna will use proceeds from the fundraiser to match contributions made by county employees to the scholarship program. The program will provide grants to 52 graduating high school seniors. Awards will be presented at the Board of Supervisors chambers May 16.
