Re "Political rivals team up on water storage" (Page A1, March 20): It was encouraging to read about proposed construction of a new water reservoir.

Water regulators have for years been required to over-release for environmental concerns.

If The Sacramento Bee heralds politicians who get behind our food growers for more water reservoirs, it will do much to challenge environmental lobbyists and balance the common sense use of water. The public must be informed that dams are the environmental trade off for more Delta water. Then farmers will have their water and environmentalists already have fish hatcheries.

The farmers plight to grow our food should be more of a thankful focus even in wetter years, and not lost to environmental squabbles. Then the tone of water priorities will become more a conversation of common sense.

I have seen an abundance of those naturalist proponents of various causes, but the voices of our food producers have been relatively mute. Perhaps we can be their mitigating voice, and keep them working. I love their food.
