A bicyclist is behind bars, after he allegedly bit a police officer’s hand during a traffic stop, authorities said.
Rolf Staib, 64, is being charged with two felonies: battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest.
The incident occurred Thursday at 11:30 a.m. between 9th and L Streets, when Sacramento police officers struggled to detain Staib, according to police. Staib allegedly bit one of the officer’s hands and did not let go, police said. Officials said the suspect continued to violently struggle, before he was taken into custody.
Staib was then transported to an area hospital to be cleared for incarceration, said Sacramento police spokesman Officer Doug Morse.
While at the hospital, Staib struggled again with an officer. Morse said police then used a Taser on Staib, who was later booked into Sacramento County Main Jail without incident. His bond is $50,000.
