Fire tax vote unfair

Re "Metro Fire tax seeks new charge on property owners" (Our Region, March 23): The twisted logic of Sacramento Metro Fire was demonstrated by its announcement to schedule a vote for a tax increase. Not only is the increase sought to remedy a less than one percent shortfall in revenue, votes will be weighted based on the amount of property tax paid.

I pay markedly less tax than my neighbors on either side, as my assessment is at the Proposition 13 level. However, the neighbors' votes will count more than mine because they pay more tax. Ignore the fact that our houses are the same square footage and the same age.

To close the gap in the budget, Sacramento Metro Fire should think about cutting some overtime or not filling one of those quarter million dollar chief positions.
