Published: Sunday, Mar. 23, 2014 - 9:41 pm

Sacramento Police arrested a suspect in a homicide Sunday night after a two-hour standoff at an apartment complex near the Garden Highway.

Police spokesman Officer Doug Morse said the man was taken into custody shortly before 9 p.m. after surrendering at the complex in the 2200 block of River Plaza Drive.

Morse declined to immediately identify the man following the arrest but said he is a suspect in a homicide that occurred within the past month.

Several apartment units were evacuated after a SWAT officers arrived at the scene earlier Sunday.

Motorists attempting to drive into the complex were turned away from the site, and a line of flares marked the perimeter of the police action.

Residents were allowed to return home after the suspect was taken into custody.
