Re "Urban chicken problems come home to roost" (Our Region, March 23): I was disgusted but vindicated reading the article.

The city council worked with an organization called CLUCK which freely admitted keeping chickens illegally. Why should people bother to pay up when they were already abusing the system with no reprisal? Why would anybody bother pay to license a chicken? How many people have a license for their bicycle?

During CLUCK'S presentation, one of the group'S leaders talked basketball with the mayor, his ego boosted by insider dealings with the powers that be. Those who got their two minutes to express concern over noise and smell were ignored.

One council member gave a moving speech about how children would learn where eggs came from. Apparently, the children learned more about illnesses chickens are vulnerable to and how to abandon them at the expense of the community.
