Re "Thrill rids routine as youth rodeo flies high in Plymouth" (Our Region, March 24): Even the pictures of the California High School Challenge of Champions rodeo make it clear it is just about youth learning to torture helpless animals for amusement.
For instance, horses or bulls in rodeos are made to buck with straps to squeeze their testicles to create pain. Animal abusers of pets are imprisoned or sent to mental institutions, but then rodeo promoters make it seem like it's fun to abuse livestock animals, even though it benefits neither the animals nor the children.
Rodeos in the 21st century should be outlawed since it began during a barbaric past in which animal suffering was considered entertainment. -- Michelle Kunert, Sacramento
