Re "It just doesn't make sense" (Page A1, March 30): I am sorry about the death of Parminder Singh Shergill. However, accusing the police of murder is ludicrous.
The family called the police, and recognized from his behavior that he needed to return to the hospital. The family told the police that Shergill was not violent. If that is so, why call the police? Why not coax him to the hospital yourself?
Imagine Shergill's perspective. Previously, when he was stressed and left the house, suddenly, the police show up, stick him in a car and he's brought to the hospital. If that is not what he wants, no wonder he may have reacted violently when he saw the police approach him.
It matters little whether the police knew of Shergill's psychiatric history. If you come at police with a weapon, police can use deadly force to protect themselves.
