Re "Time to fix regional disparities in health costs" (Editorial, March 17): There are a number of ballot measures related to health care being discussed this year, and it is essential that voters and patients understand their impacts. One particularly deceptive initiative disguised as rate regulation would, in fact, give one politician sweeping new power over our health care, including benefits. Treatment decisions should be between doctors and patients, not dictated by politicians. The measure also creates more costly, duplicative bureaucracy. We all want to control health care costs, but this measure would actually increase costs for many patients - all so its sponsors can cash in off costly health care lawsuits.

This self-serving and deeply flawed initiative does nothing more than put more politicians, lawyers and bureaucracy in between patients and their doctors. Voters should reject come November, or we all pay the price.
