Kings starting point guard Isaiah Thomas is out tonight because of a right quad contusion. Ray McCallum will start in place of Thomas.

Pregame notes: Isaiah Thomas out against the Knicks with quad injury

Published: Wednesday, Mar. 26, 2014 - 6:58 pm

Isaiah Thomas will miss his first game of the season tonight with a right quad contusion when the Kings host the New York Knicks.

Ray McCallum will start at point guard for the Kings in place of Thomas.

Thomas was injured during Sunday’s win over Milwaukee when he was kneed by Bucks center Zaza Pachulia.

Thomas is the Kings’ second-leading scorer at 20.7 points per game. Thomas leads the Kings with 6.4 assists per game.

McCallum is averaging 3.6 points and 1.2 assists.

• Quincy Acy (sprained right ankle) is active tonight. He missed the previous two games.

• Prediction time: The Kings have had two days off, but will be without their only experienced point guard. The Kings have played Thomas extended minutes all season is because there hasn’t been a lot of trust in his backups.

Rudy Gay will help facilitate, but if McCallum gets in foul trouble it will be a long night in the backcourt.

No Thomas figures to be the difference tonight, even if the Knicks gave up 51 points in a quarter last night to the Lakers.

Knicks 105, Kings 98

My record: 43-26 (minus the pregame session missed due to travel issues).
