Re "Lining up for the cap and trade gusher" (Dan Morain, March 23): What a leaderless mess the Capitol committee room meeting seemed.
We know we must curb the dismantling of our ecosystem, yet the room is bursting with endless advocates as described by Dan Morain. I'm 110 percent with advocates for great mass transit, lowering emissions, and the rest. What I find abhorrent is the lack of a spokesperson for responsible life quality.
Per Bloomberg.com, United States gas prices rank No. 50 in the world, yet we're No. 5 with 3.18 percent of income spent on gas. We're not entitled to cheap gas. I believe we are entitled to a reasonable standard of living. That begins with responsible system stewardship.
High-speed rail and our Sacramento Arena project should be catalysts for a comprehensive, safe and clean mass transit system. All people deserve to safely, efficiently and inexpensively get to work and the grocery store. Who will represent this phenomenon?
