UPDATE: Five-hour police operation ends in Sacramento after carjacking suspect not found

Published: Saturday, Mar. 29, 2014 - 10:12 pm

A five-hour police operation Saturday in downtown Sacramento ended shortly before 10 p.m. with the Sacramento Police determining a suspected carjacker was not in a targeted apartment.

The Sacramento Police Department operation, blocking off an apartment complex near 10th and Q streets, attempted to bring a suspected carjacker into custody, said Doug Morse, a department spokesman. The operation involved police SWAT team members, hostage negotiators, air support and K-9 units.

The carjacking occurred earlier Saturday in Sacramento County. The gun-wielding carjacking suspect and victim were known to each other, Morse said. The victim directed the police to the downtown apartment complex, where the vehicle was found. Officers made contact with a woman at the residence, who left with a child when instructed to, Morse said.

Morse said extra precaution was taken because a gun was used in the carjacking.
