Two convicted in 2013 Antelope Walmart, residential robberies

A Sacramento County jury has convicted a man and woman of multiple robbery charges, including a 2013 robbery at an Antelope Walmart store.

Christopher Wells, 39, and Elisha Simpson, 36, were found guilty Friday of robbery. Wells also was convicted of assault with a firearm, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office news release.

The vicitm in the first robbery, which occurred May 20, 2013, was an acquaintance of Wells and Simpson. Simpson reportedly drove the victim to his apartment, where Wells was waiting inside. When the victim walked into the apartment, Wells forced him to the floor at gunpoint, using the victim’s own loaded 9mm handgun, authorities said.

Simpson entered the apartment and duct-taped the victim’s hands behind his back. She and Wells then ransacked the apartment, taking approximately 12 guns, a computer and collectible coins before leaving through a bedroom window.

On June 1, 2013, Simpson attempted to steal a cart full of merchandise from an Antelope Walmart store, authorities said. When a loss prevention officer confronted Simpson in the parking lot, Wells intervened, telling the officer to back off and gesturing to his waistband as if to indicate he had a gun. Simpson and Wells then fled.

The third incident occurred the following day. Wells and Simpson went to an Antelope residence where they had previously stayed until they were no longer welcome, authorities said. When a resident of the home told them to leave, Wells reportedly pulled a handgun from his waistband, pressed it against the victim’s stomach and threatened to kill him. Wells and Simpson left when someone in the home said they were calling police.

The defendants are to be sentenced April 25 by Sacramento Superior Judge Delbert Oros.
