Re "Yes, climate change is real and it is damaging" (Editorial, April 1): This article is a disservice to your readership. Most people know climate change is real. It happens daily. Humans do pollute the atmosphere, at least in the local sense. However, our atmosphere has a built-in mechanism to cleanse itself.
Over geologic time volcanoes have spewed tremendous volumes of toxic gases into the atmosphere. The disappearance of dinosaurs 65 million years ago was the result of the tremendous volumes of poisonous and sun-blocking gases ejected from volcanoes. The swift change in climatic conditions that followed cleansed the atmosphere.
Without climate change, we'd still be living in the Ice Age, the waters of the Pacific Ocean would still be connected to those of the Gulf of Mexico and the land mass of what is now Florida would still be submerged.
