FBI mall attack training exercise at Roseville Galleria is concluded

Published: Thursday, Apr. 3, 2014 - 10:26 am

The convergence of federal and local law enforcement at the Roseville Galleria early Thursday morning was part of a training drill to prepare for the possibility of an attack at the shopping mall, according to the FBI.

The exercise at the Westfield Roseville Galleria has concluded. The training was not related to any specific threat.

The local exercise was part of a nationwide initiative. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security, state and local law enforcement, fire departments and emergency medical responders are conducting the drills at local malls across the country.

A press release from the Sacramento FBI said the drills are the final phase of the “Complex Mall Attack” initiative, developed to promote preparedness. The exercise gives law enforcement and mall representatives a chance to train, assess response and make improvements before any possible incident.

Special Agent in Charge Monica M. Miller, special agent in charge of the Sacramento FBI, said the Thursday exercise ensured “that we are all prepared for the unlikely event of an attack at the Roseville Galleria.”

The Sacramento FBI, Placer County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, Placer County Sheriff’s Office, Roseville Police Department and Westfield Galleria took part in the exercise.

“We take our participation in training exercises such as this one seriously, because we know they help prepare our community to respond to potential emergency scenarios,” said mall General Manager Eddie Ollmann.
