Proud to have served

Re "A friend long gone, but never forgotten" (Dan Morain, March 30): The article's underlying implication is that the friend's sacrifice was for nothing because of what all wars represent for him: a waste. There are others who share that feeling, no doubt.

Nevertheless, there are many of us who fought in Vietnam and view our experiences proudly and who went without hesitation. Most of us came home to a country that seemed to have changed its value system while we were away.

Despite that, we served proudly and surely would do it again if asked.
