Re "No evidence that fracking leads to earthquakes" (Another View, March 30): Catherine Reheis-Boyd's op-ed distorts the truth. That's what she is paid by the Western States Petroleum Association to do.

Fracking's injection wells trigger earthquakes. A U.S. Geological Survey study, published by the Seismological Society of America, found that the frequency of earthquakes started rising in 2001 across a broad swath of the country between Alabama and Montana. In 2009, there were 50 earthquakes greater than magnitude 3.0, followed by 87 quakes in 2010. There were 134 earthquakes in the zone in 2011, six times those of 20th century levels.

A 2011 Houston confab industry session titled "Designing a Media Relations Strategy To Overcome Concerns Surrounding Hydraulic Fracturing," advised hiring former military psychological operations. Let's not fall for these techniques.
