Re "Wealth redistribution schemes" (Letters, April 4): Letter writer Michael Miro's comments on wealth redistribution lack reality. Obamacare, as the republicans call the Affordable Care Act, is not wealth redistribution. It is intended to provide medical coverage for 40 million Americans who lack medical insurance in the U.S. Wealth redistribution has been occurring in the U.S. for 30 years as the tax system has been manipulated by the Republicans to favor corporations and the rich giving them tax breaks and government handouts of public funds.
One in four corporations pay no taxes on their income at all. Paul Ryan's budgets have helped to cut away at the so-called social safety net, destroy government support for higher education and research and make an unfair system even worse. As the middle class disappears, what incentive do the our children have to live and strive for the future in our country?
