Published: Friday, Apr. 4, 2014 - 3:09 pm

The public is invited Sunday to the dedication of a new Torah scroll at the Chabad Jewish Community Center of Folsom.

The work of a specially trained scribe, the torah containing the five books of Moses took a year to write by hand. Rabbi Yitzchok Raskin of Machon Stam, a Jewish publishing house, will be present to complete his work.

Between 300 and 500 people are expected for Sunday’s dedication, which begins at noon at the Chabad, 302 S. Lexington Drive., in Folsom. Rabbi Yossi Grossbaum will lead a brief dedication ceremony at 1:30 p.m. and then the torah will be raised high and led on parade amid music and dancing. Special programs for children and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
